DISPLACED STRESS FRACTURE OF THE FEMORAL SHAFT: CASE REPORT

Abstract

Stress fractures involve high, repetitive loading without adaptation time on healthy bone. The tibia, fibula and metatarsals are the most affected. Femoral location is rare. We report a very rare case of displaced stress fracture of the distal third of the femoral shaft. The circumstances and mechanism of the injury favored a stress fracture rather than a pathological fracture. This clinical case illustrated the need for early diagnosis of stress fractures before the complete fracture stage. The risks of complications such as displacement can modify the morbidity of the bone lesion and therefore the therapeutic strategy
